by flipper inin this book on mind control cults and recovering from abusive relationships that my wife and i are reading titled , " take back your life " by janja lalich & madeleine tobias - it discusses in detail how damage we've received from cults or abusive relationships stays with us after we exit .

When I made the decision to fade away, I felt strong. However, within a few days, I felt like the rug had been pulled from under my feet. What did I have left? No real friends, nothing to focus on, I questioned my relationship with God, I felt lost........
I was depressed for a long time. My anxiety and panic attacks came back with a vengence. I worried constantly if I had made the right choice. I didnt realise how deeply entrenched my thinking had become............it took a long time to start thinking independently again. In fact, if it wasnt for my friends on JWN, I would probably still be mentally beating myself up on a daily basis.
My eyes are open now, and get so much strength and support here! In fact, if it wasnt for the Borg, I wouldnt have know any of you.....and I thank them for that! :)
Peace to you Mr & Mrs Flipper. So happy to know you xxx

You are confident in the knowledge that none of your best crystal will ever break because you dont toast
You are worried that you are supposed to be the happiest person on the planet, so how come everyone else is having all the fun?

You are a woman and you have a fabulous collection of special teatowels that you utilise for headcoverings

Was I Truly Baptized?
by TOTH ini have been running this through my head now and again for decades.
was i truly baptized as a jw?.
i ask because although i was dunked at a da in el paso, tx in 1981, i never prayerfully dedicated myself to anyone, including jah.

You may have said yes to the 2 questions, but if you didnt make a personal dedication to Jah, I dont see how you can be.
Whats your next move?

What is the current JW stance on blood - for nursing assignment..
by coldfish inhi, i'm an ex-jw, i left about 10 years ago, and my memory is getting blurry on some jw detail these days.
sorry i'm sure there are stacks of discussions on blood already but i don't have too much time for reading through hundreds of pages.
i'm a nursing student and our topic for the week is blood.

Great post by Blondie there.
I used to carry blood in my pockets as a nurse, to warm them up. Study teacher was horrified at this.
She also said that all my skills as a nurse would never be need in Paradise because nobody would get sick and die. This made my self-worth plummet, after 2 years college, and 4 years Uni, I felt like everything I WAS had become worthless.
Sorry, off topic, just reminded me thats all.
Good luck with your assignment.

Attention Governing Body: October 2, 2014 is only 940 days away...
by Alfred inin 1823, john aquila brown (a man who is not mentioned in any wt publication) came up with a bizarre mathematical calculation which totalled 2,520 years (in an unauthorized attempt to predict the end of the gentile times).... several religions recycled this bizarre calculation, including the adventists and the bible students... when armageddon didn't come on the variety of early 20th century dates predicted by several "dooms-day" religions of that time (including charles taze russell's bible students who predicted that the big a would start in 1914), they all finally realized that this 2,520-year calculation was nothing more than arbitrary mathematical speculation derived from erratic biblical extrapolation.... except for the bible students who continued to move up the date for armageddon 2 more times (1918, 1925) and then decided to use wwi as the starting point for the "last days".. all the while, one thing that seems to remain intact is the october 2, 1914 date.
oddly, for the watchtower bible & tract publishing cult, this particular date still marks the end of the 2,520-year period (that john aquila brown referred to in his bizarre 1823 book "the even tide")... again, no mention of this in any watchtower publication.
but, for jws, that date still remains the starting point for the period of time often referred to as the "last days" or even "the generation that shall not pass".. because of this, the governing body has been forced to change the definition of "the generation that shall not pass" countless times since the early 1970's.

Good post. Do you think they will put a few loaded paragraphs in the next WT to start softening the blow and worm their way out of the whole mess?

Are Synapses an Example of Irreducible Complexity?
by cantleave inthis is a excellent video about the development complex neuro-circuits.
well worth watch all the way through.
i remember that along with the eye, synapses were often quoted as an example of irreducible complexity by jw's and other creationists, from 4:38 on this video there is a great explanation of why this is not so.

good one
I remember the JWs saying we only use 30% of our brains, likening them to supercomputers.......
As an ex-neuro nurse, I argued this was immpossible......we use ALL of our brains, everyday, if we didnt, neurons would simply die off.
Where do they get this stuff from??

If you end up a little lost, well, 3000 miles lost, and end up in Wales, you and your little doggy are more than welcome to tent up in ours. You will be most welcome, and the delights of a full English breakfast await you........consisting of (in my house at least).......
A proper cup of tea
2 sausages, 3 pieces of crispy bacon, 1 fried egg/scrambled if you prefer, mushrooms, black pudding (optional!), tomatoes, beans, fried bread, a side of lava bread (speciality seaweed..good for your iron!) about 6 rounds of toast, any jam you like (you call it jelly?, the cereal of your choice.......and another cup of tea.
Happy camping! Your bike is awesome by the way.
